Crochet Gift Bags

Project Skill Level - Beginner

This Pattern Uses US & [UK Terms]

Materials:

DK - Weight #3 Yarn

4mm Hook

Tape Measure

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Measurements: 7 inches tall by 6 inches wide

Gauge: 9 rows of double crochet = 4 inches

Stitches & Abbreviations:

  • Chain (CH) – Yarn over, pull through.
  • Slip Stitch (SL ST) - Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Pull through stitch and loop.
  • Single Crochet (SC) [Double Crochet – DC] – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Double Crochet (DC) [Treble Crochet – TR] – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Triple Crochet (TR) [Double Treble Crochet (DTR)] – Yarn over twice. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Back Loop Only (BLO) - The stitch is worked in the back loop.
  • Stitch(es) – ST(s)

              Notes:
              • CH 1 and CH 3 do not count as a ST.
              • Make sure you count your STs.

              Pattern:

              Gift Bag:

              CH 46 then join with SL ST into the first CH to form a circle (make sure the CH is not twisting).

              Row 1: CH 1, SC [DC] both sides of the circle together to form the bottom of the bag. (23)

              Row 2: CH 2, turn, DC BLO [TR BLO] in the same ST and the next 21 sts, 2 DC [TR] in the next, turn, then continue down the opposite side of the row working DC [TR] in the BLO, join with a SL ST into the 1st DC [TR] of the round. (47)
              (From here on out you will be working in the round.)

              Round 3: CH 2, DC [TR] in the same ST and around, join with a SL ST into the 1st DC [TR] of the round. (47)

              Round 4-14: Repeat Round 3 eleven (11) times for a total of 13 rows of DC [TR].

              Round 15: CH 3, TR [DTR] in the same ST and around, join with a SL ST into the 1st TR [DTR] of the round. (47)

              Round 16: CH 2, DC [TR] in the same ST and around, join with a SL ST into the 1st DC [TR] of the round. (47)

              Round 17: CH 1, SC [DC] in the same ST and around, join with a SL ST into the 1st SC [DC] of the round. (47)

              Tie off.

              Weave ends.

              Turn your bag inside out so that the bottom seam is on the inside.



              Tie:

              CH 80

              SL ST into the 3rd chain and across the CH.

              Tie off.

              Weave Ends.


              Assemble:

              Starting in the front centre, weave the tie into the TR [DTR] row all the way around the gift bag until the ends meet. Pull the tie to close the top and tie a bow.

              Congratulations ... You are done!
