Textured Two-Colour Scarf w/Fringe

This scarf pattern was inspired by my friend Jerry and was the first scarf I ever made! It consists of easy crochet stitches and is a great pattern to practice getting more consistent with the basics.

Materials:

 

Worsted Weight #4 Yarn (Two Colours)

6.5mm Hook

Scissors

Tape Measure

Yarn Needle

 

Size: Average Adult

 

Measurements: 60” Long – 6” Wide (Aprox.)

 

Gauge: 12 Double Crochet = 4 Inches

Stitches & Abbreviations:

  • Chain (CH) - Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Pull through stitch and loop.
  • Single Crochet, Back Bump (SC BB) – Insert hook into the back bump of the stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Single Crochet (SC) – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 3 loops. 
  • Double Crochet (DC) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  • Stitch(es) – ST(s)

 

Notes:

  • CH 1 and CH 2 do not count as a ST.



Pattern:

Chain 18 + 1

Row 1: SC BB into the 2nd stitch from the hook, repeat across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 2: HDC across the row. CH 2, turn. (18)

Row 3: DC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 4: SC across the row, Ch 1, turn. (18)

Row 5: SC across the row, Ch 2, turn. (18) 

Row 6: DC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 7: HDC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 8: SC across the row (18)

Colour Change

  • Pull a loop of the 2nd colour through the loop on your hook.
  • Pull down on the 1st colour to tighten, then cut off leaving a tail.
  • Pull down on the short end of the 2nd colour to tighten around the hook. CH 1, turn.

Row 9: SC across the row (18)

Row 10: HDC across the row. CH 2, turn. (18)

Row 11: DC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 12: SC across the row, Ch 1, turn. (18)

Row 13: SC across the row, Ch 2, turn. (18)

Row 14: DC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 15: HDC across the row. CH 1, turn. (18)

Row 16: SC across the row (18)

Change Colour

Repeat Rows 9 – 16 until desired scarf length, changing colour every 8 rows.

Tie off

Weave Ends

Fringe:

  • Make sure to do the same number of tassels on both ends of the scarf.
  • Each tassel will be made up of four 8-inch strands (creating eight 4-inch strands when folded).
  • Using the measuring tape, measure out eight inches of yarn, then fold the yarn back and forth three times.
  • Cut the yarn from the skein and at the three loops
  • Fold your four strands

Trim the tassels to make sure they are even.

Congratulations … you’re done!
